Created in 1949, the Fonds Cantonal pour l’Art Contemporain (FCAC) is intended to encourage living artists by purchases from the best known, but also by particular attention paid to the emergence of new talents. A part of the cantonal cultural department, its mission is to promote and support current creation in the areas of contemporary art and design in canton Geneva and its region. It also contributes to the artistic quality of public buildings and spaces and to the enhancement of sites and landscapes. This collection also completes the State artistic holdings and builds public awareness of these goals. The FCAC has built up a collection since its formation in 1949, by regularly buying the works of living artists: paintings, sculpture, photography, video, installations, etc. The collection today includes over 3000 works, mostly by Geneva artists or those residing or exhibited in Geneva.
